Ashe County Middle School's Blue Bulldogs played an impressive half of football last night. Too bad it was the second half of a game they were already down 22-0 in. Unable to move the ball against Johnson County, the Bulldog's offense kept their defense in one unenviable posistion after another in the first half of last night's game. Taking advantage of their good defensive play, Johnson County found themselves with the ball in Bulldog territory and having to make just a couple short drives to put Ashe in the hole 16-0 late in the second quarter. When a Bulldog pass was intercepted and returned sixty-five yards for another score as time ran out in the first half, it would have been easy for the Blue Bulldogs to pack it in for the night.

But take it from someone who's played for him, that's not Coach Dwayne Farmer's style. Challenging his players to give the next sixteen minutes all they had, Coach Farmer pulled his team together and inspired them to two quarters of very solid football, scoring on a sixty yard drive with their first possesion of the second half. Blue's defense also stepped up, holding the Longhorns scoreless for the entire second half.
